How to repurpose a single blog into 44 pieces of content

My last blog clocked in at just over 1200 words, which is hefty. But the subject matter - What is ethical marketing - required me to do in-depth thinking and research. The wonderful thing about writing 1200 words is the wealth of content I can repurpose from it. I’m going to show you how.

Don’t create content for the sake of it

First up, I am not a fan of creating content just because you think you need content. Anything you create should have a purpose that links back to a benefit for your business and community. The other thing to bear in mind is that you won’t get the same amount of repurposed content out of a 400-word blog. It has to be meaty and substantial. You can definitely still repurpose a 400-word blog, just not to the same extent.

With those things in mind, here’s how to save time, avoid brain drain and squeeze every last drop of value out of your blog-writing effort.

Repurposing your blog content

If you want to write a blog that you can repurpose the heck out of, structure it in a way that makes it easier to do this.

Here’s how you can do it:

  • an introduction,

  • 4-6 main points, each with a few paragraphs (my blog had 6 pillars of ethical marketing) and,

  • steps, actions or helpful tips your reader can use (my blog had a brief overview of the TARES framework I use).

From that, you can create:

  1. An 8-minute video going over the main points raised in the blog - can be used on IGTV, Facebook, YouTube.

  2. A carousel post breaking down the blog across 10 tiles.

  3. Convert that carousel post into a set of stories for IG or FB breaking down the blog across 10 story posts.

  4. A post providing a high-level view of your main topic in 60 seconds (150 words of copy)

  5. Convert that post into a Reel or video for IG or FB

  6. 6 separate posts, each one focusing on a single point you made in the blog

  7. Use the copy from those 6 separate posts and turn them into a mini training email sequence for existing or new subscribers

  8. Convert each one of those single point posts into a Reel or video for IG or FB

  9. Re-use the videos to create a mini-training course people can sign up to.

  10. Expand on each of your single points by writing 6 separate shorter blogs (400 words)

  11. Use a shortened version of the main blog in an email newsletter

  12. Use it to create an article on LinkedIn

  13. Create an infographic of the content and share it on social media

  14. Pull out 6 separate quotes for IG or FB posts

  15. Turn the blog content into a podcast episode or be a guest on a pod and talk about the topic. There are 8 potential topics in my blog post, so you could do this 8 times in theory

  16. Turn it into an ebook or guide to use as a lead magnet

  17. Expand on the blog even further with examples or a case study and turn it into a white paper or insights piece

I know that’s 17 points, but it’s 44 separate pieces of possible content if you add it all up.

See the immense value you can get from a 1000 or 1200 word blog? Pretty awesome I reckon. That’s not even taking into account the SEO benefits you’ll reap from updating your website with a quality piece of content like this.

You can take it a step further and choose five topics for the year, ideally, these will be your content pillars, and write or outsource the blog creation. Once you have the main content piece, it’s a lot quicker to create the rest.
